Officials say one person is dead and two have been seriously injured after a plane crash at a small airport in North Carolina.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said Monday that the plane crashed around 3:15 p.m. as it was trying to land at Horace Williams Airport in Chapel Hill. She said three people were on board the plane.
The plane was registered to Thomas F. Pitts LLC of Wilmington, Del.
Aerial views from television news helicopters showed the plane's wreckage at the base of some trees alongside the runway.
