IBM To Add 600 Jobs In Triangle

An IBM Corp. subsidiary will hire 600 workers at its North Carolina campus over the next two years and could get a tax rebate of nearly $8 million while paying wages below the local average.

Gov. Beverly Perdue's office announced Thursday that IBM Lender Business Process Services Inc. will open a service center in Research Triangle Park.

IBM has been a major employer in the area for 45 years, and the company's North Carolina campus is its largest in the U.S.

If IBM meets hiring targets and retains the jobs, it could collect up to $7.8 million in rebated taxes.

The company will pay an average of $50,000 a year plus benefits for the new positions. Durham County's average wage is $57,772.

Lavon, sorry that logic = hater to you. I guess you are happy that she is giving away your tax dollars to pay a company to come in, hire up a few people, pay them less than normal, and then jump ship when the tax break is over. Just like Dell. Get a clue man. These people aren't helping you, or NC, or the country. It's time to wake up!

To Lavon; I am not a 'hater'(of what you think we hate is not clear). Secondly, you really need to find a new coloquialism. Thirdly, if you live in Goldsboro, what part of 'Research Triangle Park jobs' do you not get? The only people who will benefit from these few jobs are those that live in that immediate area and are willing to extend credit to people on a 'promise and a handshake'. They will be borrowing on their future paychecks with a fee attached. Do more 'research' about the lender's jobs.

You people will complain no matter what. What a bunch of haters.

Any jobs at any pay are better than nothing with over 8 million out of work and as Biden said those jobs won't be recovered. Gain 600 loose 1/2 million a month.....................

Notice the article says it's a 'Lender business', and there are several 'ifs' associated with the jobs. So great for the Research Triangle; pretty far from ENC.

"The company will pay an average of $50,000 a year plus benefits for the new positions. Durham County's average wage is $57,772." Why is it that every time a company opens,or expands a business the average wages are about 10% below the county average? If they did that in South Carolina, or a couple of counties in eastern North Carolina, the number would come out negative!!

Like I said before, President Obamas policies are really starting to pay off. Another 600 jobs added for the President resume. I hate to tell you you Obama haters but this is bad news for you in 2012. A high unemployment rate is what your banking on for you to take back the white house but it ain't happening homies!!
