Gunfire Hits Police Chief's Car As He Drives Through Downtown Durham

A North Carolina police chief may have unwittingly driven into the middle of a shootout that left a bullet hole in the windshield of his car.

Authorities say Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez Sr. was driving an unmarked car downtown on Thursday afternoon when his car was hit by gunfire. He was not injured.

Investigators think people in two other cars were shooting at each other and a stray bullet hit Lopez's windshield.

One of the other drivers was hit by gunfire and was taken to Duke University Hospital.

The name of the wounded person has not been released, and no charges have been filed so far. Police are still looking for the other vehicle involved.
