Ruffin Poole's arraignment hearing was scheduled for Thursday afternoon in Raleigh. Poole is accused in 51 felony counts of taking trips and gifts and making money off of coastal developments while he helped hasten them through the state permitting process.
Judges in arraignment hearings usually ask whether the defendant pleads guilty or not guilty to the charges. Poole wants all the counts dismissed.
Judge Terrence Boyle also may rule on a motion by Poole's lawyer to delay the scheduled April 26 trial until August. The government wants the case tried this spring.
