Ex-Governor's Aide Indicted On 51 Counts

A former aide to ex-North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley has been indicted on more than 50 counts, including extortion and bribery, on allegations he received personal gain while performing government actions.

A federal grand jury in Raleigh on Thursday issued 51 charges against Ruffin Poole, who was Easley's former special counsel and aide while the two-term governor was in office.

The indictment accuses Poole of profiting financially from a coastal development that had been approved by state regulators. It says a Wilmington financier sent payments from the financing of Cannonsgate to a construction company owned by Poole's family.

Easley is not accused of wrongdoing in the indictment. The maximum punishments add to up hundreds of years in prison.

Poole's attorney didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Pretty sure you had to buy at least 10 lots in Cannonsgate to have the opportunity to buy one on the Marina, so he obviously got preferential treatment if not a handout! Only thing we got was a beautiful sewage treatment facility in plain sight.

and not one other politician in Raleigh new anything was wrong. Not even with Black, Easley. This proves they are clueless, or afraid to say anything because they also live in glass houses.

Easlys aide charged with corruption, Perdues aide quits. Seems to be a theme here. Jim Black in Prison, Tony Rand quits, Mark Basnight resigns from his construction company after the fact. Another theme appears.

Take the 3rd paragraph and substitue Basnight Construction and pier. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck, well it must be a politician. Remember, election time.

Because of our esteemed Gov Mike WEasley normal people like myself are being delayed due to CAMA Inspectors being scared to death to do their jobs. SHAME on you, you corrupt piece of garbage. Not only did you wield your influence for Cannonsgate but for your wife to insert her into a high six figure job at NCSU as an advisor. May you go to Federal Prison for a long, long time....
