Barrel Monster Artist At It Again

The controversial barrel monster artist in North Carolina has created another monster -- this time out of office supplies instead of orange road construction barrels.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Monday that college student Joe Carnevale has built a towering elephant out of old computer parts, power cords and printers.

Carnevale was commissioned by the Purple Elephant -- a nonprofit agency that rebuilds donated computers and delivers them to needy children.

The work was part of a sentence of 50-hours community service given to Carnevale in the spring after he turned roadside orange traffic barrels into a giant monster.

Police charged Carnevale with larceny and destruction of property but the charges will be dismissed with the community service.

He's actually been commissioned a few times before this to build more barrel monsters after his moment in the spotlight. There were two at the state fair this year I think it's awesome, and I wish him continued success in his art.

Is that fresh air? A fitting punishment for a non-crime. This is what I am talking about. Anyone with this kind of talent shouldn't be in jail. N.C. is full of folks, the jails too, that could be working. Before they spend piles of money on prisons, why not spend some on job opportunity. We have talent right here in N.C.

Maybe all construction cones should look like this picture. People might slow down more! They should thank him and pay him for his design.
