It's something you might think about a lot, how safe is the place you live? A new crime report ranks nearly 400 American cities based on their crime rates. One of the safest places to live in North Carolina can be found here in the east.
Jacksonville was ranked 150 out of 393 towns across the country for being a safe place to live. It's the highest ranking of any city in Eastern Carolina. The CQ Press study only considers cities with at least 75,000 people, and that reported crime data to the FBI for 2008. The rankings take into account murders, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle thefts.
The safest city in North Carolina is Cary, in Wake County. It ranked 19th out of 393 cities nationwide. Greenville ranked 267th.
