Feds Subpoena UNC to Turn Over Mary Easley Records

Federal authorities investigating former North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley have asked officials at the university where his wife worked to turn over records on her.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that UNC System leaders revealed Friday they'd been ordered by a grand jury to produce documents related to Mary Easley's job at North Carolina State University.

UNC officials say they will comply and release the documents publicly once they're compiled. State Auditor Beth Wood says her office has received a second subpoena related to the investigation.

Easley was fired after details became public about her hiring and an 80 percent salary increase. She has filed a grievance, and the university's chancellor, provost and chairman of its board of trustees have stepped down.
