The North Carolina Democratic Party has forfeited $24,000 in contributions reported at least five years ago because of questions raised about whether they actually received them.
The chairman of the State Board of Elections announced the action Thursday as he discussed the investigation into the campaign committee of former Gov. Mike Easley.
The party wrote a letter saying that it doesn't know whether the seven in-kind contributions were improper but decide to give the money to the board to resolve any questions about them.
The disclosure comes a week after a campaign finance reform group raised questions about these kinds of party contributions to the board and their connections to Easley's campaign.
