4 Groups File Lawsuit Over NC Redistricting

There's been another legal challenge filed over the redistricting maps in the state.

Four community groups, including the NAACP, filed suit Friday morning in Wake County Superior Court pertaining to the redistricting maps. The lawsuit says the new boundaries are an "intentional and cynical use of race" that harms minorities.

"For a party to impose its own political aspirations on a state by engaging in extreme political re-segregation of the people of the state, that is a serious political question that is not democrat or republican. It's about who are we as North Carolinians," said
Dr. William Barber, NC NAACP.

The new maps set the stage for republicans to preserve or expand their political gains in the legislature. The GOP says any claims of discrimination in the new boundaries are baseless.

I am wondering what "it's a shame" is talking about? democrats controlled NC for 150 years by cheating at everything they can cheat at. Now for first time since near civil war days, Americans control the NC House and Senate- and will be trying to fix things. At no place along the time-line of history have democrat types (all the shades of socialist, marxist, criminal spectrum) been in power and life improved for regular folks. I am happy to see a return to our republic!

After years of for calling for a nonpartisian redestricting process, the folks in power this time just kept the status quo!! About the only thing Arnold was able to do in Califonia was get nonpartisian redistricting done in his state. We'll just continue in our simple minded beckering, splitting our folks over politics/partys, instead of joining together to solve our problems!! Shame!!! Our system is truly broken!! Democracy for sale!!! Shame!!!

Top notch reporting WITN. Invite the bigots to spew their hatred by only naming one of the groups (out of FOUR total), and of course it was the NAACP you named. Obviously a tactic by the GOP to strengthen their hold on the state. Not saying it has never been done before, but their motives are clear as can be.

I am shocked at the level of racism WITN allows on its website. You should not post the comments of the clear racists who want to clearly re-establish Jim Crow South. It saddens me because I live here and love north Carolina, but your hatred is unbelievable ENC.

I am a white female who did vote for Obama. Had hopes for the administration, but it seems all politicians end up disappointing me. I did not agree when the first redistricting was done. Who was that for & why? It was done so more minorities could get in office. They split counties down the middle so there is more than one person representing the same county. It did not make sense to me then and doesn't now. If the census shows there is a need for redistrictering, then so be it. I will vote for the candidate I believe is best suited for the job, no matter what color or what party. But I am tired of the NAACP complaining at every level. Each person in tis nation has the same opportunity to learn and grow up to be a benefit to their community. The path they choose, whether they are black, white, or another race, is their own choosing and I am sick of people making excuses for them. Tell them to study in school and get a job when they get out.

Thank u Republicans for getting this re-districting corrected. The old saying is give them an inch and they will take a mile and that is what Mr. Barber is trying to do. And no Teresa, Obama has a few more months and he is gone to. The white male is the one that is discriminated against in the world at this time and that is being fixed by Republican leadership and the Democrats just cannot stand it. And oh, Governor Perdue, u need to go ahead and contact a moving van service to as your address is going to change next election. Keep on doing the right thing Republicans and let the Democrats continue to want some cheese with that whine!!!

Have you ever thought about what NAACP stands for?? National Association for the Advancement of COLORED (meaning BLACK) People... This organization WILL NOT help ALL people - only BLACK people... How more racist can you get?? Their name needs to be changed to "National Association for ALWAYS COMPLAINING People".....
