N.C. State Calls Emergency Meeting

An emergency meeting of the North Carolina State University board of trustees has been called to consider a severance package for the official who hired a former governor's wife.

Multiple media outlets reported that the Monday afternoon board meeting was called to consider a severance package for former
provost Larry Nielsen. He resigned last month after questions were raised about his hiring of Mary Easley, wife of then-Gov. Mike Easley.

The university said Sunday the severance package for Nielsen was more than the amount announced to the public. The school had said he was to receive nearly $300,000 for six months, but now says the amount had been raised to $310,000 by university chancellor James
Oblinger.
