Police: NC Woman Leaves Child In Car, Goes To Bar

A Morrisville woman is in jail after police say she left her 4-year-old child in a car for about an hour while she went drinking inside a bar.

Raleigh police spokeswoman Laura Hourigan says 28-year-old Kimberly Ehlers is charged with one count of misdemeanor child abuse.

Police said Ehlers parked the vehicle in downtown Raleigh behind a restaurant and bar Thursday night, left the little girl in the vehicle and went to a nearby bar to drink. Hourigan said employees of the restaurant saw the child in the vehicle and called police.

Hourigan said Ehlers registered a breath-alcohol level of 0.18, more than twice the legal limit to drive.

Ehlers is in the Wake County jail under $3,000 bail. It wasn't immediately clear on Friday if she had an attorney.

I'm a single man. I wouldn't go to a place like Hooters. I don't approve of strip clubs or the like. It's places like that which make our world a scummy place to live in. This woman is obviously scummy.

are you saying its sad that the country now frowns upon children in bars and leaving them in the vehicle when they werent allowed? hopefully not, but yes, its amazing that people once found this acceptable. poor kids!!!!

At least she didn't leave the child in the car when it was 100 degrees or more outside. All of those people who left their kids in the car should be listed as criminals, but all of them for the doctor on down received no punishment. I am sure law enforcement and social services will have a ball with this. This is not the worse place a parent can leave a child. Iwent to a club last week and a woman was turned away because she had three kids (girls) ages 9-11 with her and she thought they would be allowed in the club. Now, she needs her head examined and should be investigated.

I know its sad,but it just goes show how the country has changed. I was practiclly rasied in barrooms when i was young. I also spent a fair amount of time in the car when i wasnt allowed in some of them.

I wonder how many trips she made to the bar while she was pregnant? The child should have swiped the keys and drove home.

Why is there no mention of who took custody of the child? At the very least, I'm certain the officers notified CPS. God help that poor baby. Lucky the "mother" got caught before trying to drive the child home.
