Volunteer Firefighter Charged In Wreck While Responding To A Call

State troopers say a volunteer firefighters who was responding to a call has been charged after his vehicle struck a farm tractor Saturday morning.

The accident happened around 8:00 a.m. on Dixon Road, near Black Oak Drive in Pitt County.

The Highway Patrol has charged James Hudson with driving left of center. Troopers say the volunteer was driving his personal vehicle.

The driver of the tractor says the 20-year-old firefighter was looking down right before the accident and that he tried to get out of the way. The firefighter's vehicle hit the back end of the farm equipment.

Hudson was trapped in his vehicle and had to be airlifted to Vidant Medical Center. Monday afternoon the hospital says Hudson was in fair condition.

We're working to find out how a volunteer firefighter is doing, after he reportedly crashed on his way to another wreck.

The Highway Patrol responded to a crash in Pitt County, just after 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning, on Dixon Road near Black Oak Drive in the Blackjack area. Dispatchers say a firefighter was pinned in the car, and ended up getting air lifted to Vidant Medical Center.
