If you haven’t had an opportunity to recognize the work of our country’s veterans of today and years past, there are more events planned for Monday.
The Pitt County Veterans Council is hosting its Veterans parade at 9 a.m. in downtown Greenville. A gathering will take place at town common following that at 11 a.m. This year’s speaker will be from the Wounded Warriors and live music will also take place.
Winterville will be holding a ceremony at 2 p.m. in front of the Public Safety Building, located at the corner of Main and Railroad Streets. Dr. Sheila Parson, President of the Winterville Chamber of Commerce will be the guest speaker. She is a sixteen year veteran. Our special guests will be three National Guard families, who had a family member who were either killed or wounded in Afghanistan recently.
Several free meals will be offered for veterans and active duty military as well.
Golden Corral will be serving dinner to veterans and active duty military between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Texas Roadhouse will be serving free lunch to veterans and active duty military between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
And in Kinston at Vernon Park Mall, the non-profit group, Veterans Challenge, will be providing a covered dish supper at 7 p.m. for all active military, veterans and the community. There will be entertainment and prizes. Organizers are asking people to bring a food or beverage item, whether a covered dish, meat, veggie, dessert, bag of chips or 2-liter drink.
