ECU Head Coach Ruffin McNeill says that he was pleased with the way both offense and defense moved the ball in the team's first intra-squad scrimmage this morning at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
The first points of the depth matchups would come from a 42-yard fieldgoal by sophomore Warren Hardy -- setup by four complete passes by senior Brad Wornick.
The sole touchdown thrown would come from junior Rio Johnson who connected with a stellar 12-yard grab by junior Justin Jones, that pass set up by a 43-yard throw by Johnson to true freshman Jabril Solomon.
The defense not to be outdone racked up seven sacks while also holding the running backs to just 10 yards across 7 attempts, something they looked to improve on from last season.
Defensive end Derrell Johnson says it's about improving from last season, "Last year that's one of the things that helped us make that basic jump from cutting that number in half, that rank number in half, that's one thing we made sure we paid attention to today we ran to the ball, swarmed to the ball."
Coach McNeill had this to offer about today's performance, "I saw both sides execute well. I saw defense make some plays and come back after a big play was given up. I saw offense do a good job of moving the football and getting around those guys and each quarterback did a pretty good job."
