It's Official: Two Greenville Country Clubs Merged

The deal for Greenville Country Club to buy Brook Valley Country Club is complete. The paperwork for the deal went through on Sunday.

Officials say both clubs will remain open to its members, but they will save money by having one management team. The new name is the Greenville Golf and Country Club.

Previous Story
After recent negotiations, two of the three country clubs in Greenville have agreed to merge due to economic pressures.

According to an email from the clubs to its members, Greenville Country Club has come to an agreement with Brook Valley Country Club to buy the club and merge it with its own.

The email says both clubs will continue stay open and be available to members but they will be able to save money by having one management team.

In regards to the economic influence in their decision the email says, "Most consultants advise that a town of 100,000 can support one club and Greenville has less than 100,000 and three clubs competing for business. The time is right to take advantage of the economies that are present with the merging of the two clubs."

Greenville is also home to Ironwood Country Club. It is not mentioned in the email about Greenville Country Club buying Brook Valley Country Club.

I played at BVCC and was turned away from GCC because I wasn't a member. 3 Clubs can't strive because even you rich ppl that stick your nose up at the common man don't understand the concept that everyone in Greenville does not make the money to pay 65 and 85 bucks a pop per golf outing and they especially won't when you can go to Tarboro or bradford creek or Farmville and pay half of that price. Cutter Creek wasn't even that high when they opened up and they are above and beyond what BVCC and GCC have as course conditions.

Those of you out there complaining about prices too high for food or golf have no idea what it takes to enjoy great food and great golf! The Taylor family didn't have to sell out, they chose to because you didnt want to spend the money and then you have the audacity to complain that they priced themselves out of the market! Country club life isn't for everyone... some people are content with fast food and municipal courses!

Anyone who thinks they can make money at a country club is just down right dumb! I wish both clubs the best. Inhad the pleasure of working with Mr Taylor and his vision was a grand one! I have nothing but respect for him and his family! Being a former employ of Bvcc I can tell you that Bennett nor Shawn were bad pros but like all of us we have our strengths and short comings as well, sometimes you just need to change things up a bit... job well done to both! Fig worked under a man who didn't believe in days off or a time clock and isn't afraid to tackle any obstical placed in front him and he carries himself in the same manner. I didn't know Karen but I'm sure she did great in the short time she was there and didn't have much time to prove herself. And the dining room manager, Benny, he is still the only person I would love to have on my side! He always was there and always kept people laughing and entertained. If this guy leaves, you can bet your last dollar that Bvcc will fall! Speaking of under paid and over worked in a thankless job... DJ Benny is the meaning of that phrase! I would work with him any where! Belinda I miss you and hope you are fairings well! As for the GM, lets face it, he was hired to achieve a goal in an extremely short amount if time. He knows his business and he was given the task of making Bvcc profitable(Which is an oxymoron). He had to make some difficult choices and for the most part seemed to go well but it was the 5 yr plan that was the receipt for extiction. Chip will go on to make another club more successful one day. Miss all the members at Bvcc, and to Benny, may they give you the best raise (and continue to look for a job) ever or get the freak out of there!

Everything will be great as long as the superintendent from GCC does not assume any type of head position for both clubs. His staff and himself have become beyond lazy over the past 2-3 years and he does not deserve the pay or position he has at the moment. Take a look at GCC's driving range and thats all the proof you need, it has gone unattended for weeks on end since August.

If you aren't a member at either or have never visited either club...you have no right to post. Look at the positive and know that both clubs are doing what they can to make the best of it! Facts are facts and figures are figures...this town cannot support three country clubs...best option for what they have! Quit complaining and lets see what the outcome is.

Why are so many employees being brought up in this conversation? Has nothing to do with any of them! You go get a thankless job in this field for a year trying to make 350 members happy all the time, you will never make that happen, it is so unfair to them all the things put in these responses, totally embarrasing to all associated with each club! Grow up people! Comment on the situation at hand with the two ckubs but leave the hard working employees out of it!

Two great courses, two great memberships. What a great opportunity to join the two and provide top service to its members. Everyone should stop speculating on what's going to happen. Let's get the facts in the next week or so. This merger can benefit both memberships and will,be done in such a way that it is no longer us and them but us and we.

I believe WITN should use better judgement on allow people to post liable statements about individuals and to discuss personal salaries of individuals. I think it is bad taste of not only the people wanting to post this information but in WITN allowing it to be posted. News should be factual not silly opions. We all know what opions are like.........

It is amazing how people don't know what really goes on, and make stupid comments. Karen was the closest thing we had to real GM at the BVCC for a private Club. BC Company was only worried about where the next buck was coming from and didn't care if it came at the expense of the membership. It was refreshing to have someone that cared about the members, it has been a long time. Every time I would pass her office there was always a member or employee in there complaining about the BC company and didn't know who to turn to. She was considered a leader and only one who cared. We were lucky to have her and if she could of had some help from management or ownership she might still be here. So don't talk about things you don't have the facts about. Think twice.

Was wondering how many people posting on this topic have ever played in a member/guest at GVCC or BVCC? I've had the opportunity to play in many throughout ENC and none can hold a candle to BVCC's. I have never felt more welcome at a club I did not belong to in my life. The course was in great shape but what it comes down to is the staff. Everybody there worked diligently all weekend to make sure my Wife and I had the best weekend possible. I hope that Greenville recognizes which members of staff are worth keeping. I wish everyone the best of luck in this transition. Just sad they're may not be enough space for me in the next M/G cause you will 800 players trying to play.

I agree I played in a member guest there and was never treated better in my life as I was at BVCC.

Good luck Greenville CC members and Brook Valley CC members soon to be GCC members not for just getting that big loan but for the big assesment that will be coming up. There are about 1.2 million dollars of improvements on the drawing board at GCC and about 300,000 dollars worth of repairs at BVCC.
