Three men whom police describe as high-ranking members of their gang are off the streets after an investigation that lasted five months.
The Greenville Regional Drug Task Force arrested 29-year-old Robert Hopkins, 28-year-old Chicobe Williams, 26-year-old Ernest Wright on Monday night. Police say the three are high-ranking members of the United Blood Nation gang in the Greenville area.
During the five months of the investigation, lawmen say they determinded the suspects were buying and selling stolen weapons, selling and buying drugs and supplying other street level drug dealers, and conspiring to commit other violent crimes.
Hopkins was arrested Monday near the intersection of 14th St. and Myrtle Ave. He was charged with eleven counts of Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Cocaine, nine counts Maintaining a Vehicle or Dwelling for a Controlled Substance, and eleven counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Hopkins was jailed under a $650,000 bond.
Williams was arrested Monday at 1130 Teakwood Dr. in Greenville. He was charged with seven counts of Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Cocaine, seven counts of Sell or Deliver Cocaine, and three counts of Conspiracy to Sell Cocaine. Authorities say they found 28 grams of crack cocaine on him when he was arrested. His bond was set at $1 million.
Wright was arrested at 891 Fleming School Rd. Monday evening. He was charged with six counts of Possession of Firearm by Felon, the counts of Sell or Deliver marijuana, two counts of Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Marijuana, Possession with intent to Sell or Deliver a Schedule One Controlled Substance, and Maintaining a Dwelling for a Controlled Substance. His bond was set at $1 million.
Each of the suspects has multiple prior arrests, according to officials. Authorities say Hopkins has at least 25 arrests on his record for crimes including assault on a female, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, kidnapping, and larceny. Williams has at least 39 prior arrests for such crimes as assault inflicting serious injury, possession of cocaine, conspiracy to sell cocaine, breaking & entering, and assault on a female, according to officials. Wright has at least 34 prior arrests for crimes such as assault with a deadly weapon, various drug violations, armed robbery, assault with intent to kill, and possession of a firearm by felon, according to authorities.
The investigation included agents from the ATF, DEA, US Marshals, the Gang Unit of the Greenville Police Department, and patrol elements from both the Greenville Police Department and Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say this investigation may result in more arrests.
Officials at the Pitt County Detention Center say a combined effort between Greenville police and the Pitt County Sheriff's Office brought the two men you see in the mug shot into custody last night.
Robert Hopkins, 29, of Plymouth faces 33 drug charges, some involving cocaine. He's behind bars under a $650,000 bond. Chicobe Williams, 28, of Greenville faces 20 drug charges, some involving cocaine. He was jailed under a one million dollar bond.
