Superintendent Patrick Miller emailed the statement to WITN regarding the loss of 38-year-old Patricia McLaughlin:

"The Greene County Schools family is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Patricia McLaughlin. Mrs. McLaughlin taught for many years in Greene County at Greene Central High School, Snow Hill Primary School, and at West Greene Elementary. She was a valued teacher, colleague, and friend to many.

The principal of West Greene Elementary, JoAnn Pennington, along with other staff members, spent the morning calling the parents of the children in Mrs. McLaughlin's classroom to let them know what happened. Greene County Schools' crisis team has been mobilized - additional school counselors and support staff will be on hand at the school on Monday morning to assist with grief counseling. At this time, I am unable to share any additional information. Thank you again for your understanding during this most difficult time."
