Deputies said a three year old wandered into a neighbor's yard, on Spains Lane near Grimesland, and was bitten by the chained pit bull in that yard. Investigators said because of where the attack happened, no charges can be filed.
Investigators with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office said a three-year-old child wandered away from home around 9:00 p.m. Sunday night. Deputies said the child went into a neighbor's yard, where a pit bull was chained up. Investigators said the child, Yadirc Suavo, was bitten on the ear and taken to the hospital for treatment. She is in good condition and has already begun rabies shots.
According to officials, the four-year-old dog, whose name is PeeWee, does not have current vaccinations so it will be quarantined for ten days at the animal shelter. The animal control report indicates the owner's name is Martin Escamilla.
Deputies said Monday morning no charges can be filed in the case because it was not an aggravated attack, as the child wandered onto the neighbor's property.
