A high school student was rushed to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after strong winds whipped through southern Pitt County.
The damage happened on Main Street in Grifton around 3:00 p.m.
Family members say William Gardner was asleep on a bed in his grandmother's mobile home when the large tree crashed through the roof.
Danny Gardner says his grandson suffered a minor concussion. He said debris from the roof hit the 18-year-old in the head.
The family says William's grandmother was the only other person home at the time and that she was uninjured.
The elder Gardner says William plays basketball for Ayden-Grifton High School. Wednesday evening, William told WITN the accident won't keep him off the basketball court.
