Greenville police said on Tuesday that New Bern man died in the wreck that stopped traffic along a busy road Monday afternoon.
Police said James Trice Jr. of New Bern drove the sport utility vehicle that hit a light pole Monday afternoon.
The initial crash report shows Trice jumped the curb and first hit a 35-foot concrete utility pole. The report shows the SUV kept going with that pole on top of it until it hit a tree.
Police have not released any details regarding the cause of that wreck.
Greenville Police say one person was killed in an accident Monday afternoon on Arlington Boulevard.
An accident this afternoon closed a busy Greenville street for more than an hour.
Arlington Boulevard was shut down between Red Banks Road and Hyde Drive from 4;00 p.m.until right around 5:00 p.m.
The single vehicle accident happened just south of Turtle Creek Drive.
Police say the sports utility vehicle was traveling Southwest on Arlington, crossed the center lane then went across the Northwest bound travel lanes, jumped the curb and struck a light pole and trees.
The Driver was pronounced dead at Vidant Medical Center.
The driver’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
Authorities are not sure why the driver ran off the road in the first place.
