Simpson Police Chief Resigns As Role Changes

The chief of the Simpson Police Department has resigned on the heels of the town council's decision to eliminate his position.

Simpson Mayor David Boyd says Rob Voliva turned his resignation yesterday, the same day he was to transition to one of the town's two part-time officers. Voliva had been Simpson's police chief since January.

Mayor Boyd says the town will have two or three police officers who work part-time for the town. "We feel this will be very success for our town," Boyd said. "It may not work for other towns, but we feel it will for us."

Some residents spoke out against the plan to eliminate the chief of police position at a meeting in June. However, the measure passed the town council.

Boyd said Voliva resigned on his own accord.
