SCHOOL OFFICIALS: Students Transported With Skin Irritation After Hose Burst On Bus

A bus with 38 middle schoolers on board had to pull over only about a mile and a half from the school Monday morning after a hose burst on the bus, according to school officials.

Pitt County Schools spokesman Brock Letchworth said around 7:45 a.m., bus #344 heading for Hope Midlde School had steam coming from it.

Officials said once the bus pulled over near Ivy Road, they found a radiator hose that runs from the engine at the back of the bus up toward the front had burst, leaking antifreeze and caused steam to rise from the bottom of the bus.

Letchworth said as a precaution, four students were transported to the hospital for minor skin irritations from the chemical steam.

Officials said all other passengers were evaluated at the school.

No severe injuries were reported.
