DEPUTIES: Student Made Up Assault At Hope Middle

Deputies say they have closed the books on a possible assault at a middle school.

Pitt County deputies began investigating the alleged assault last Monday at Hope Middle School after a 12-year-old girl said she had been assaulted.

Deputies now say the assault never happened. Investigators say the child is "remorseful that her actions caused such a panic with school officials and the community."

Deputies say they are now conferring with juvenile services to determine appropriate actions against the juvenile for filing a false report.
