The Pitt County Sheriff's Department says there's been a rash of burglaries in the northwest part of the county recently, including 8 residential break-ins in Belvoir last Monday, October 11th.
Sheriff Mac Manning says 3 of those break-ins were on Holland Road. Manning says it's unusual to have that many burglaries in a concentrated area, and says detectives believe they're related for that reason. He says there are reports of a vehicle seen in the area of several of the break-ins, and says fingerprints were lifted from at least one of the crime scenes.
One of the Holland Road residents we spoke with, Dr. Stephen Halstead, says he's anxious about what's happening in his neighborhood. "It's kind of scary because it's normally a very quiet neighborhood and one of the main reasons I moved here three years ago, and it's very distressful you know, to think that I spent the time to come to a nice quiet community and find out I really didn't get that at all."
Sheriff Manning says there's also been a string of air conditioning units stolen from churches in the county recently. He says 9 churches have been hit since July 15th.
