Pitt County Road That Washed Out Reopens

The Department of Transportation says a road that's been closed for weeks because of damage from heavy rain and flooding has reopened.

Mills Road near Blackjack Simpson Road has been closed for weeks after Pitt County received nearly five inches of rain.

Crews checking other bridges noticed the road's shoulder giving way near a 48 inch pipe that goes under the road to accommodate a drainage canal. They believe the pipe couldn't handle the huge amount of rain and began eating away the road.

The road was expected to reopen within a week after it was closed, but the D.O.T says it was delayed due to rain from Tropical Depression Beryl.
