An investigation is underway after firefighters were called out to a home on fire in Pitt County for the second time within a few weeks.
According to neighbors firefighters were called to the home on Rountree Road in Winterville around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
Neighbors say no one was home at the time. They say the residents that lived there are actually staying somewhere else because the home was heavily damaged several weeks ago in another fire.
Laura Corbett lives nearby and told WITN, “It was very scary, because I let the fireman know that there was a generator on this end of the building, that I knew had fuel in it because it was still running.”
Corbett says work was being done to the home because of the previous fire.
Firefighters are investigating what caused the fire. No word on what caused the first one.
