UPDATE: Drunk Driving Crash Suspect Arrested

The man troopers say was drunk and caused a car crash that ejected his teenage son from the car is behind bars.

Alton Bell of Parmele was arrested for the September 17th crash near Bethel in Pitt County, charged with felony serious injury by vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $11,000.

Bell is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Bell and his three passengers were sent to the hospital following the crash. Bell's 16 year old son was ejected from the car in the crash. Troopers expected everyone to survive the injuries caused by the crash, but it's not clear how they're doing.

The Highway Patrol says the driver of a car that flipped in Pitt County Monday night ejecting his 16-year-old son is charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving.

Trooper M.M. Wiggs says she smelled the alcohol on 41-year-old Alton Bell before he was taken to Vidant Medical Center after he wrecked on US 64 Alternate near Porter Road at 5:36 p.m. Monday. Bell's 16 year old son, an 18 year old relative, and a 21-year-old were passengers. Trooper Wiggs says all 4 were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

US 64 Alternate was closed about an hour from Porter Road to Cemetery Road for the single car wreck.

The Highway Patrol responded to a car flipped onto it's top in a ditch in Pitt County west of Bethel off US 64 Alternate near Porter Road at 5:36 p.m. Monday night. 4 people were taken to the hospital.

As of 6:30, US 64 Alternate was still closed from Porter Road to Cemetery Road for the single car wreck. The passenger sedan ended up upside down after traveling eastbound on US 64 Alternate with 4 people inside. One person was flown and 2 were taken by ambulance to Vidant Medical Center. A fourth was being removed around 6:15 p.m.

The victim's names and conditions have not been released.
