A months long search for for a new social services director has come to an end for one county government.
Jan Elliott was named the new Pitt County Director of Social Services in Greenville Monday morning. She replaces Interim Director Earl Marett who has overseen the agency since February.
Elliott is coming out of retirement to take the position and has previously held director's roles in both Person and Scotland counties. She has also worked for the state as a regional supervisor of social services.
Elliott began Monday and says addressing the current staffing needs is her top priority.
"There already is some planning in place for how that's going to happen," she says. "That is clearly one of the most critical things we've got to get done right now is get these staff on board, get them trained, and get them working so that we can be doing what we need to be doing."
Elliott will be paid $102,730 per year.
