It's a competition unlike any you've ever seen. A rodeo with fork lifts.
Pitt Community College and Overton's teamed up with Greenville Utilities Commission and the Greenville Pitt County Chamber of Commerce Friday to host the first annual "fork lift rodeo competition."
Fork lift drivers from eight different companies demonstrated their safety skills by navigating through obstacle courses.
The event took place in the warehouse of Overton's.
Jerry Jones with PCC Industrial Training, says, "We will be looking at everything with the emphasis on safety. For instance, there is a way that you must mount and dismount a fork lift. Three points of contact, we're looking at that, when you back up, you should be looking back, sounding the horn, safety feature. Our technique we're looking at that, maneuvering safely, even though we're timing this, and they're trying to do the best time they can or the least amount of time to complete the course."
Jones says it's important to remind workers of safety procedures and says this first forklift rodeo a success was a success.
