Grifton Police are looking into whether alcohol was a factor, after containers were found inside and around a car that was involved in a severe accident.
Grifton Police Chief Bryan Caulery says the accident that happened Saturday at Church and Lewis Streets critically injured a 17-year-old passenger. Police said it appeared the 18-year-old male driver ran off the road, overcorrected, and crashed, throwing his passenger from the car.
Saturday, Pitt County 911 says that EastCare was requested following the accident. They say they received the call for the accident around 3:10 p.m.
Pitt County Dispatch says that EMS are at the scene of an accident in Grifton.
Officials say that the call came in around 3:10 p.m. about an accident at Church and Lewis Streets involving a single vehicle with 2 to 3 people inside.
An EastCare helicopter has been requested to the scene according to dispatch.
Grifton Police are investigating the accident.
