The Pitt County Sheriff's Office has promoted one of its captains, making her the first African-American major the office has ever had.
The Pitt County Sheriff's Office promoted Captain Paula Dance to Major.
She will oversee all the captains in their respective divisions at the sheriff's office.
Major Dance has lead the investigations division since 2011 and says she's honored.
She started her law enforcement career in 1990 in Martin County and has been with the sheriff's office for 16-years.
