Parker's BBQ in Greenville gave a much needed gift to some families in the east Friday.
The restaurant provided Christmas meals for more than 400 people.
Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas worked with Greenville city council members and non-profit organizations to find people in the community who are in need of the holiday meals.
Families received BBQ, chicken, slaw and cornbread.
Thomas says, "With this time of year we get caught up in so many things, don't forget your neighbor. Don't forget those people right down the road from you. You may be the best thing that happened to them during the Christmas season."
Councilmember Rose Glover said, "Seniors sometimes run out of money because of medications and things like that and they do not have food to eat, so this is a blessing for them."
Delores Gardner was among those to receive the food and said, "It means a whole lot to us. Sometimes we do not have anything in the house. So I say Lord I'm happy for anything you send to us by the people."
Parker's says they have been doing this food giveaway for over 20-years.
