POLICE: ECU Student Hit, Kicked & Robbed

Police are looking for a group of men who hit, kicked and robbed an ECU student early Sunday morning.

Sgt. Joe Friday says the man was walking home from downtown around 3:15 a.m. when a group of men came up to him and hit him on his head. It happened on East 4th Street near Library Street, about a block from campus.

Friday says the student hit the ground and the group kicked him in his upper arm, took his wallet and then left. Police say they do have people of interest in the case, but so far no arrests have been made.

Police did not release any descriptions of the attackers.

So, once again, it's the police department's fault that an "innocent" young person was robbed. According to the armchair quarterbacks on here we should just give a free shuttle service to drunkards, impose new regulations on taxi drivers, and put the entire police force in this one neighborhood. Or, and I'm just spitballing here...maybe students should be at home studying or sleeping up for church in the morning instead of walking home intoxicated at three in the morning. Just my two cents. Let the liberals begin bashing.

We The People have the right to walk ANYWHERE ANYTIME (in accordance to federal, state, and local law). The Greenville Police Department has failed us citizens time and time again. We deserve the right to have our youth, the future of this country, walk a few blocks home without incidence. Who cares if this young man was drinking, even though there is no mention of this, the charges were not filed against him. He was not charged with drunken misconduct or lewd behavior. It's shameful to read people's comments about how it isn't GPD fault or how it's this young mans fault for walking down a road. Wake up people!

You certainly have the 'right' to walk on a public sidewalk at any time of night. However, you shouldn't think the police are able to protect you wherever you go. If you want to walk the downtown neighborhoods during the highest crime hours than be smart about it. Walk sober and be able to defend yourself. If you're going to do stupid things, then expect stupid consequences.

This is why civil rights are becoming extinct. This kind of thinking is so flawed. We have the right to walk home and not be attacked and robbed. You can't blame this young man! He did not commit any crime did he? He was the victim of a crime and people like yourself are turning the victim into the bad guy. It is this skewed thinking that will sink America entirely. I bet you call yourself a conservative but the only thing you want to conserve is money/taxes and not the CONSTITUTION!

Come on GPD. You can do better. Set up sting operations to catch these low life leeches. All it takes is a little focused effort on your part.

Great idea! They already do it for prostitution and drugs. It would be so EASY! I bet a lot of GPD can 'act' like a drunk pretty easily from years of 'acting' experience.

Lets not tell the race of the suspects (even though we already know what race these punks are). I wonder how many people would instinctivly choose one particular race over another, everytime?

ECU students tend to put themselves in tough situations. It's a shame how drugs and booze have taken over the campus

This happened to me on the same corner. I thing the police need to look at the numbers and determine the where it is happining all the time. how many times to we need to hear 4th and Library? Maybe adding brighter street lights for one would help.

You are all morons. Greenvilee is perfectly safe. Go ahead and live in fear if you want. Believe thier scare tactics. I've lived here for 42 years and never ever once has anything negative happen to me or anyone else I know (half the town). I guess I'm just better than most. :P

More of this unneccesary crime around Greenville. Hopefully these punks will be caught and not be let out on the streets.

I agree, but no college kid coming back from the bar is going to be armed. Thugs know this, a little drunk white boy is an easy easy target. They probably did it for fun.

If the cops were worth their salt around G'ville, they would be doing reverse sting operations with ARMED, little, drunk acting white boys to bait the criminals.

I have been saying for years that GPD needs to bait these criminals just as you described below. I have no CJ degree, but dang, it seems pretty simple.
