We now have the name and the condition of the man beaten with a bat during a robbery in the east.
67-year-old Horace Justice was beaten during a robbery of the Country Fare Mart just outside of Greenville Thursday night.
According to Pitt county deputies, two men wearing all black, walked into the store as the clerk, 61-year old Kay Sugg started closing for the night.
Justice, who authorities say is not an employee of the store, but frequently sits in with Sugg at night, was beaten by one of the men carrying a bat.
The other suspect, who had a long knife, demanded money from the register.
Pitt county deputies say the robbers knew there was surveillance video rolling and asked the clerk of the tape. When she told them she didn't know how to give them the tapes, deputies say, the suspect with the bat started smashing them off the wall and then ran off.
Justice was transported to Vidant Medical Center where he's listed in Fair Condition as of Friday morning.
No arrests have been made at this time.
