A new East Carolina University scholarship honors a long-time beloved staff member.
The "Gail Jordan" Scholarship will help cover costs for full-time staff members taking more than the two tuition-free courses allowed each semester.
Private donations are paying for the scholarship established in memory of Jordan, who worked at ECU more than 30 years between 1973 and 2006 as an assistant to vice chancellors and to the chancellor before she passed away with breast cancer in 2008 at the age of 57.
The scholarship will be available for the 2014 fall semester. It can offer $25,000 but ECU is working to raise more money for the scholarship.
