East Carolina University is changing the way it issues emergency alerts to those signed up for "ECU Alert."
ECU is switching to a system called "AlertUs."
The university issues alerts about crimes on or near campus, or other urgent matters.
The main difference is that pop-up notifications will fill your entire computer screen.
ECU says the message could "Potentially startle you," when the pop up message appears.
There will be a dismiss button to return you to your previous computer screen.
ECU plans on testing this pop-up message and the entire ECU alert system during the fall semester move-in weekend.
