A couple is facing charges in the case of some stolen gutters.
The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says a person in Farmville reported his copper gutters were stolen. He told police he thought they might be sold to a metal recycler because of copper's value. Deputies say, he was right.
The sheriff's office contacted metal recyclng businesses about the gutter larceny. Two businesses soon responded that they had purchased sets of copper gutters. Foss Recycling told detectives that he'd bought a set of copper gutters from David Whitfield, while Willies Recycling Center said they had purchased a set from Stephanie Awadallah. According to the sheriff's office, Awadallah is Whitfield's pregnant girlfriend.
Farmville Police charged David Whitfield with Felony Larceny and the Sheriff’s Office charged both Whitfield and Awadallah with Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense, Unlawful Transport more than 25 Pounds of Copper on State Highways, and Aid and Abet Obtaining Property by False Pretense.
Whitfield was jailed under a $15,000 bond, while Awadallah's was set at $3,000. Neither are in jail this morning.
