ECU Pirates announcer Jeff Charles is recovering following surgery Tuesday.
Pirate Radio 1250 & 930, where Charles works, posted an update saying, "We are glad to report that Jeff's surgery yesterday to reconnect his colon, repair a hernia, and get rid of his skin graft, has been a success. After a long day of surgery yesterday, Jeff is in recovery and they even got him up in a chair this afternoon. He is still in lots of pain, and on plenty of meds, but so far, so good."
Charles underwent two emergency surgeries for colon rectal cancer last December. He missed most of the 2012-13 ECU basketball season, but was able to return in February.
Jeff is expected to remain in the hospital for a week or so, but the radio station says his goal is to work and broadcast ECU's season opening football game on Aug. 31st.
