A new statewide initiative to help curb substance abuse and underage drinking was announced in Greenville Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking at ECU, Governor Pat McCrory unveiled a task force to combat the problems, calling substance abuse a major public health problem that costs residents billions in medical care.
McCrory was joined by Department of Public Safety Secretary Frank Perry, ABC Commission Chairman Jim Gardner, and ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard.
The task force will be made up of 20 people, and co-chaired by Perry and Gardner. ECU will be one of five pilot campuses that will report its prevention efforts to the task force by August 2015.
