Greenville's mayor says he will treat his counterpart in Lafayette, Louisiana to some Eastern Carolina barbecue if the ECU Pirates aren't victorious in the upcoming R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
The Pirates will take on the Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on December 22nd.
Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas says the city has engaged in these types of friendly challenges with teams in the past. Thomas is an ECU graduate, while Lafayette Mayor Joey Durel is an alumnus of UL Lafayette.
If the Pirates win the bowl game, Durel has to treat Thomas some Cajun cuisine. The losing mayor will also send the winning city a native tree. Greenville would get a bald cypress if the Pirates come out on top, while Lafayette would receive a crepe myrtle if they win.
This will be ECU's sixth bowl appearance in the last seven years.
