NEW INFO: Gang-Related Murder Suspect Makes First Appearance

The 17 year old accused in what police say is a gang-related murder made his first appearance in court Monday.

Deon Daniels was sent back to jail with a $2 million bond. He opted for a court-appointed attorney and is due in court again August 1.

Daniels is accused of shooting 20-year-old Quastepheon Hardison of Robersonville early Saturday. The deadly shooting took place at the intersection of Ridge Place and Cortland Road in Greenville, which is off Hooker Rd.

Greenville Police held a press conference Sunday afternoon to discuss Saturday morning's shooting murder and arrest.

Greenville Police Chief Hassan Aden says that the shooting that happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday was gang related.

Arrested for the shooting was 17-year-old Deon Daniels. He's been charged with murder in the death of 20-year-old Quastepheon Hardison of Robersonville. Chief Aden says that Hardison was shot once in the chest.

Daniels turned himself into police following investigative work by Federal Marshals, SBI, and Greenville Police Officers.

Chief Aden says that community involvement was key in Daniels' arrest.

"The tide is turning in Greenville, the police department and the community are aligning and developing strong partnerships. Our goal is to rid ourselves of the senseless violence that instills fear and diminishes the quality life in segments of our city," said Chief Aden.

Chief Aden that their policy is to attack gun violence head on with all on call resources.

Police have identified the top 25 violent offenders in the city and are targeting them.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.

The teenager Greenville police named as the suspect in the murder of a Martin County man early Saturday is now behind bars, according to online information.

Multiple websites show 17-year-old Deon Daniels is in custody. The Pitt County government detainee site shows Daniels is charged with murder and was put behind bars today. Police obtained a warrant for Daniels Saturday.

The victim, 20-year-old Quastepheon Hardison of Robersonville, was found about 2:30 a.m. Saturday with at least one gunshot wound at the corner of Ridge Place and Courtland Road in Greenville.

Records show a 17-year-old Deon Daniels was previously arrested in Pitt County on drug charges including felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell/distribute and possession within 1000 feet of a school as well as resisting arrest and possession of a stolen vehicle. A court date of September 19 was set on those charges.

Greenville Police have obtained a warrant for a man they believe is responsible for the shooting death of a person overnight.

Police are looking to arrest 17-year-old Deon Daniels on one open count of murder in connection with the shooting death of 20-year-old Quastepheon Hardison.

Police say that Daniels was last known to live at 301 Cadillac Street in Greenville. He is considered armed and dangerous according to officials.

Police describe Daniels as being 6'3'', 180 pounds and having a medium complexion and close cut black hair.

Hardison was found lying in the intersection of Ridge Place and Courtland Road around 2:25 a.m. Saturday suffering from a gunshot wound. He died later at the hospital.

Any person with knowledge as to the whereabouts of Daniels should call the Greenville Police Department immediately at 252-329-4315.

A man is dead after a shooting in Greenville.

Police were called to a shooting at the intersection of Ridge Place and Courtland Road at 2:25 a.m. Saturday.

The victim is 20-year-old Quastepheon Jamaar Hardison of Robersonville in Martin County.

Police report when they arrived, they found Hardison lying in the street and suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Hardison was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

Police say detectives immediately started investigating in the neighborhood and have developed strong leads.
