A man is in custody after a manhunt involving deputies from 2 counties that lasted nearly an hour Friday night.
Christy Wallace with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office says Pitt County deputies tried to pull over a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed around 7:15p.m. She says the reckless driving of the vehicle continued into Craven County where 27-year-old Hiawatha Anthonio Keys of Edwards ditched the car near Streets Ferry Road and River Road in Vanceboro.
Wallace says the Keys ran on foot and was found about 8:40 p.m. by deputies with the help of K-9s. She says he had no driver's license or insurance.
The vehicle, registered to Marvin Lee Hamilton, uncle of Keys' girlfriend, was taken with permission by Keys. The vehicle has expired tags and is not insured.
Keys has been transported to the Pitt County Detention Center. He has outstanding warrants out of Beaufort County for heroin possession.
He faces multiple felony charges for Friday night's incident.
