Long-Anticipated Greenville Road Extension Open

A long-anticipated road extension in Greenville is set to open today, and it should help drivers save time and gas.

Regency Boulevard, also known as the Thomas Langston Road extension, will open Monday afternoon. The road will make it easier for people to drive from Evans Street to Memorial Boulevard and Thomas Langston Road. Right now, drivers have to go all the way to Firetower Road or Greenville Boulevard to cut across. Drivers say they're excited about the changes.

"It's going to be an improvement because now I'm dealing with a lot of traffic during high traffic volumes, and this will be a straight shot right straight over there to it. It's going to cut off a lot of my time and gas money," said driver Steve Bobbit.

Work began on the $3.2 million road in July 2009. The city of Greenville will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the road at 3:30 pm Monday by the railroad tracks.
