Police say a Greenville man threatened an ECU student with a knife, all for a pack of cigarettes.
Officials say it happened around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday morning near 119 N. Library Street in Greenville.
Police say 17-year-old Patrick Canter asked a man for a cigarette, and then pulled a knife on him demanding all of them.
The suspect saw headlights and took off running.
ECU police tracked him down to the Greenway at Stancil Drive.
Greenville police ultimately arrested Canter and charged him with attempted armed robbery.
ECU police say last fall Canter was charged with simple affray, assault, an alcohol violation, disorderly conduct and resisting a public officer for an incident near campus.
