One person has been arrested and charged stemming from a shooting between two groups of people in the area of 4th St. and Evans in Greenville around 2:00 a.m. New Year's Day.
Greenville police say 21-year-old Eddie Ray Battle of Greenville has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He's being held at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.
Greenville police say the investigation is ongoing and they expect more arrests.
Two groups of people exchanged gunfire on 4th and Evans in Greenville around 2:00 a.m. New Year's Day, according to police.
No one was hurt. The window of a business was shot out, and a vehicle was hit by bullets, according to police.
Officers were on the scene quickly and three people were held for questioning.
Part of the investigation will be the images captured by surveillance cameras in the area.
Police in the east beginning the New Year investigating a report of shots being fired in an area not far from a local university.
Communication Officers with Greenville police say officers were called to the area of East Fourth and Evans Streets just before 2 a-m. Officers spent the morning canvasing the streets near East Carolina University.
