In the last month, Greenville has lost three of its city leaders including city manager Wayne Bowers. Thursday, Thomas Moton officially began his new assignment as the interim city manager and he is considering applying to take the position full-time.

Moton says the city has a number of projects to work on such as the economic development and revitalization of downtown. He says his main focus will be on the budget plan that will be adopted in June.

"To have the city council have the confidence in our management team as a whole and in me individually- it makes me feel very gratified and also it's quite a privilege to be put into this position with the level of responsibility required to do the job." said Moton.

Moton has served the city as the assistant city manager for more than five years.

Council do not make the same mistake again. He has known for his 5 years the problems that remain present. He did no "assisting" in resolving them then. What makes you think he will be what you are looking for to manage your city?

Here we go again. This black man can't possible be qualified to be Interim City Manager - never mind that he's been City Deputy City Manager of 4 other Cities before coming to "Hick Town" USA. Give me a break. He's more than qualified you morons!!!

From what I have heard about him, he has no business managing a city much less being interim. Greenville needs to put its big boy pants on hire a true City Manager with experience to handle its big boy problems.

He has worked as Assistant City Manager for the past 5 years. He should be well aware of the system and how it works. You need to read the article, maybe several times and let it sink in before you jump to judgement.

Has this gentleman ever held the job of City Manager? Greenville needs someone with vast experience in solving our ever mounting problems. We need someone who has served in this capacity in comparable cities.
