Helping People Beat The Heat

With areas of Eastern Carolina reaching a heat index of 110 degrees this weekend it's important to remember those who are more susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

A local church spent Saturday afternoon doing just that. Kingdom Empowerment Ministries were in Greenville handing out water bottles and free food as well as connecting people to local resources that are designed to help members of the community battle this intense heat.

Event Organizer James Bullock said, "We have on site social workers, we have housing information, we have ways to link you to places that can get you air conditioning and help you to get fans donated to your domain. To make sure that people in this area are cool"

Event Organizer Timeka Dickens says, "We know that some people, you know, there have been fatalities from people who have been in the heat and didn't have assistance. People nowadays just can't get the help that they need. So we want to make sure that we help anyway that we can, and if they need air, if they need any of those things, the church would like to reach out to them."

Organizers also put an emphasis on looking out for elderly, encouraging people to stop by and make sure they are staying cool and comfortable.
