Ground Broken For $44 Million Project In Downtown Greenville

Ground was broken for a $44 million dollar renovation project in Greenville.

Crews have demolished what was the Taft Building at the intersection of Evans Street and Reade Circle in Greenville. In its place, Mayor Allen Thomas says retail space and several stories of apartments will fill up the corner. Behind that, a large parking deck will be built.

The apartments will be targeted to ECU students.

"We're really hoping this serves as an anchor to the entry of downtown Greenville," said Mike McCarty, Director of Development for Taft Family Offices. "When you drive in town, seeing an urban, developed area of living and retail space. We want this to be an instigator for other businesses to build and develop in this area."
