Greenville Pastor: Marriage Shouldn't Be In Constitution , God's Law Already Clear

Many in the religious community have spoken at their churches about Amendment One. We spoke to a pastor in Greenville today who says he thinks the issue of marriage should never be put to a vote of the people or be in the state constitution because it is already God's law that it should only be between a man and woman.

The pastor of Grace Church in Greenville, Michael Meshaw, says God's law is clearly stated in the bible that marriage is between one man and one woman. Meshaw says since marriage is a union created by God, that no man should have the right to change it. For that reason, pastor Meshaw says this issue is about following what the bible says not what any man's law or constitution says.

"A long time ago, I heard a statement and it kind of stuck with me. Marriage doesn't fail- people do. God's plan is perfect when he brought Eve to Adam in Genesis chapter 2. We just believed that man will leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife. That's the authority. That's the basis it's not a matter of love or hate, it's a matter of following what God gave us in scriptures," said Meshaw.

Pastor Meshaw says this marriage issue has become more divisive than it has brought people together. He says some people felt if you approve of the amendment it means you hate gay couples and for that reason he thinks the issue is not for something should vote on.
